The Lhotka Memorial Prize is awarded to the author(s) of the book or article in English considered most helpful to the elementary student of numismatics and published in the previous two calendar years. This year there were several strong contestants but it was decided by Council to give the Prize to Ancient British Coins (ABC for short). This volume was compiled by Elizabeth Cottam, Philip de Jersey, Chris Rudd and John Sills from the Celtic Coin Index held at the Institute of Archaeology at the University of Oxford. 999 coins are illustrated at twice life size. 418 of these have come to light since the publication of van Arsdell's work in 1989.
